LICENSE RENEWAL

  • The license renewal date is the last day of the agent’s birth month

  • Instructors will receive double the course credits as the students.

COURSE SUBJECT REQUIREMENTS

  • Three (3) of ethics each compliance period.
  • Producers may complete their CE requirement by taking courses approved for any line of authority.

ANNUITY REQUIREMENT

  • One-time training of a 4-Hour Annuity Suitability and Best Interest Standards course must be complete prior to selling annuity products. Residents and non-residents who have completed training including the NAIC Best Interest Standards in another state with laws similar to Ohio law will be deemed compliant with this requirement.

LONG TERM CARE REQUIREMENT

  • Initial 8-hour LTC training requirement: Before selling, soliciting, or negotiating LTC insurance products in Ohio, producers must complete an initial 8-hour, state-approved LTC training course.
  • Ongoing 4-hour LTC training requirement: After completing the 8-hour initial training requirement, producers must complete 4 hours of state-approved LTC training every 24-month compliance period following completion of the initial LTC training.

CARRYOVER REQUIREMENT

  • Carryover of CE credits will only apply to license renewal applications submitted to the Department on or after February 1, 2016.
  • Resident agents who hold a Major Lines License may carryover up to 12 credits during each renewal period.
  • All carryover credits are applied as “General” credits and therefore agents will continue to need to meet specific ethics or line of business requirements.
  • If the same course is taken more than once within a renewal period, the duplicate course(s) will not count towards the credits applicable to carry over to the next renewal period.

COURSE REPETITION

  • Credit may not be given for a course that is repeated within a compliance period.

FINAL EXAM

  • Ohio requires 10 questions per credit hour on the examination.
  • Self-study examinations MUST be proctored by a disinterested third party with no family or financial interest in the student’s success on the exam. Co-workers must not be above or below in the student’s line of supervision. The proctor must sign an affidavit attesting that the student completed the exam without any assistance from any person, course material or reference material. The proctor must provide their name, address and phone number on the affidavit.

EXEMPTIONS

  • Non-residents who have met the CE requirements in their home state.
  • Agents who hold only a Limited Authority license.
  • Agents who have been granted inactive status by the Superintendent.
